Biography

Isa López (b. 2003) is a first-generation Mexican American artist based in Wilmington, Delaware. A recent graduate of the University of Delaware with a BFA in Fine Arts and a concentration in Forensic Science, López specializes in oil painting and illustration, blending art and science to craft surreal narratives.

Their work delves into the metaphorical web of human connection. Through the language of scientific symbolism, Lopez reflects on how cultural heritage and personal connections shape identity. From the biological to anatomical, they are drawn to re-examine the raw and often grotesque nature of the human body, using it as a vessel to amplify stories of resilience, transformation, and connection. While each person navigates life in distinct ways, López’s work highlights the parallels that bind people together—moments of vulnerability, healing, and self-discovery that transcend individual experience. Each canvas served as a window into censorship, shining light on experiences buried deep within the mind, those deemed restricted. Memories and upbringings cannot be erased, just as the body cannot be concealed, they are a part of what defines us as human.
